[Orchidology • 2013] อั้วห้วยขาแข้ง | Habenaria khakhaengensis • A New Species of Habenaria (Orchidaceae) from Uthai Thani Province, Thailand


Habenaria khakhaengensis W. Makerd & Kurzweil

Abstract
Habenaria khakhaengensis W. Makerd & Kurzweil sp. nov. from Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, Uthai Thani Province, Thailand, is described and illustrated.

Distribution.— The species appears to be endemic to Thailand where it is known only from the type locality in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, Uthai Thani Province.
Ecology.— The type specimen was collected on sandy soil in a grassy patch in dipterocarp forest at 200-300 m altitude. Flowering was observed in September.

Conservation status.— The known Extent of Occurrence of this species is less than 10 sq.km. and the known localities are all inside of Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary.
Etymology.— The name of this new species refers to the type locality in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary where it was collected.
